TOURS - Wednesday, November 11th

Preregistration required for tours.

All tours begin at 2:00 p.m. and end by 6:30 p.m. with an option to return to the hotel at 4:30 p.m. if you do not wish to attend the brewery component.

Plus optional visit to House Spirits Distillery

Enjoy a tour of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) from a member of the team that recently revamped the OMSI computer lab. The tour also reatures a behind the scenes look at OMSI, a hands-on science museum housed in a former power station next to the Willamette River.

Then return to the conference hotel or choose to enjoy a hosted tour of House Spirits Distillery, a recent addition to the craft distillery scene in Portland. For both out-of-town visitors and Portland locals, the Distillery tour and a visit to their Apothecary Tasting Room offer a unique opportunity to experience part of Oregon's dynamic artisan community.

Second Story Interactive Studios Tour
Plus optional visit to 5th Quadrant

Visit Second Story Interactive Studios and get a special insiders tour from Julie Beeler, principal, co-founder, and managing director. Since 1994, Second Story has conceptualized, designed, and developed interactive media experiences in diverse formats that enchant, inform, and entertain -- pioneering ever more effective ways to inspire wonder and connect audiences to ideas and information.

Then return to the conference hotel or choose to hang out at the Old Lompoc brewery's newest pub, the 5th Quadrant. The current version of the Lompoc brewery opened in 2000, but the brewery has been producing handcrafted ales and lagers since December 1996. The 5th Quadrant is right next door to Pix Patisserie, a well-loved Portland bakery..

Plus optional visit to Rogue Brewery

Tour the Digital Arts Program headquarters at the new University of Oregon Portland campus. Located in the historic White Stag building, the facility features the latest in sustainable technologies and green building design. The Digital Arts Program is based on the notion that contemporary media practice involves a rigorous investigation of and engagement with continually evolving technologies.

Then return to the conference hotel or choose to head to the Pearl District for a visit to the Rogue Brewery, one of Oregon's oldest craft breweries. Rogue ales, porters, stouts, lagers, and spirits are handcrafted with innovative brewing processes to give each a unique character.

Portland Art Museum Reception in the Fred and Suzanne Fields Ballroom

Join your friends, colleagues, and fellow conference attendees for an evening of Northwest-inspired tasty bites, microbrews, and wines in the Fields Ballroom at the Portland Art Museum! The galleries will be open to attendees and will feature special exhibitions APEX: Joseph Park, Word and Image/Word as Image and the exciting show China Design Now.

Attendees may reach the Museum via MAX from the Doubletree Hotel. The Museum's event space is located at 1119 SW Park Avenue.

The MCN Annual Business Meeting is an opportunity for conference attendees to hear about the state of the organization, which includes: select committee and officer reports; updates on current and future projects; the recognition of outgoing officers, directors, and committee chairs; and the induction of incoming directors and officers. There will also be a preview of the 2010 annual conference location! After formal announcements, please enjoy the remainder of the coffee break with MCN's Board of Directors, and share your thoughts and ideas about the organization and future activities.
